Northern League: Boldon CA won't let focus slip in promotion race

Boldon CA joint-manager Chris Spence has insisted his side ‘don’t fear anyone’ as they prepare to take on Newcastle University at The Villa.

Last weekend’s hard-earned 4-2 home win against Seaton Carew ensured Boldon have collected 22 points from a possible 27 on their home patch this season - and that has laid a solid foundation for what has been an incredible opening three months to the campaign. Saturday’s visitors have impressed on their travels with just three defeats in nine games on the road - and Spence is expected a tough test against a young and energetic Uni side.

He told The Gazette: “It’ll be another tough game. Like I’ve said before, there’s no easy game in this league. Newcastle Uni have picked up some good results in recent weeks and seem to be finding the back of the net, but at The Villa we don’t fear anyone.”

The battle for the title appears to be heading towards a three-horse race with Boldon, Billingham Town and Jarrow starting to open up a gap to fourth-placed Tow Law Town. However, Spence is adamant his side must only focus on themselves as they look to secure a historic promotion.

“The lads know we’ve just got to take care of what we can control and that’s getting as many points on the board as possible. I’m sure Jarrow and Billingham are doing exactly the same so we’ll keep focusing on ourselves and see where that takes us.”

Boldon have a strong squad to select from for the game as they look to continue putting pressure on their promotion rivals.
