Northern League: Jarrow warned against dropping standards in promotion push
Jarrow have enjoyed a positive start to the Northern League season as they push for promotion into Division One.
Kennie Malia reflected on a ‘really impressive’ opening to Jarrow’s latest push for a historic promotion into the Northern League’s top tier by warning his players they can’t afford to lower their standards.
The Perth Green outfit sit in third place in the Division Two table after they were forced to settle for a draw in their home clash with Darlington Town in midweek as an equaliser from visitors forward Nathan Stephenson cancelled out Luca Nelson’s goal early in the second half.

Despite that minor setback, Jarrow head into Saturday’s trip to Park View just one point from the top of the table and are now eight games unbeaten so far this season. Their form is even more impressive when you consider the number of changes Malia has been forced to make due to player unavailability during the early weeks of the season - and he could be pressed into more when his side prepare for what he believes will be a major test at The Riverside Complex on Saturday afternoon.
He told The Gazette: “It has been a really impressive start for us and we want to continue that on Saturday. It’s now eight games unbeaten despite what feels like a revolving door when it comes to player availability. We know we are in for a tough game this weekend against a very well run and very well organised club. We can’t afford to drop our standards - especially if we are wanting to keep up with everyone at the top end of the table.”
