Northern League: Kennie Malia urges Jarrow to move on from double cup disappointment

Jarrow return to Northern League action this weekend after two disappointing cup defeats.

Kennie Malia has urged Jarrow not to let two quickfire cup exits take any of the shine from what has been a positive start to their Northern League Division Two title push.

The Perth Green outfit suffered a Durham Challenge Cup loss at the hands of Division One side Easington Colliery last midweek before they were knocked out of the FA Vase in a first round tie against South Tyneside neighbours Boldon CA just days later.

Despite that double dose of disappointment, Malia’s men are the only Division Two side to remain unbeaten in the league this season after they claimed ten wins and five draws from their 15 league games during the opening two months of the campaign.

They will hope to stretch that run at Ryton and Crawcrook Albion on Saturday - and Malia has called on his players to move on from their cup disappointment.

He told The Gazette: “The fact it was two cup defeats means it wasn’t an ideal week for us - but we can put that to bed and really focus on the league. Ryton have always had decent sides and they’ve improved this week with new players coming in so they will be even stronger. We are still the only team unbeaten in the league and if you’d said at the start of the season that we’d be unbeaten after 15 games I would have snapped your hands off. It’s a great record, a great achievement but we want to build on it and we won’t let last week put a dampener on it.”
