The Mariners invited schoolchildren across South Tyneside to send in their designs for the kit, which will be used in the 2016-17 season.

More than 160 entries came in, and the lucky winner – who will have their name printed on every shirt – will find out at the event on Friday, July 29.

The kit will be worn next season by the likes of former Sunderland and Middlesbrough midfielder Julio Arca – who now plays for the Mariners – in Northern League Division One.

The kit launch will be held at the club’s Mariners Park, in Shaftesbury Avenue, with the event also to double up as a casino night.

In addition, Shields players and staff members will take part in a question and answer session with supporters to complete the evening of entertainment.

Alisha Henry, the club’s commercial and events manager, said: “We were delighted with how many entries came in, and it was really difficult to choose a winner.

“However, we narrowed it down and eventually agreed on one, which we’re really looking forward to unveil.

“It would be great to see many of our supporters at Mariners Park for this event, which will also be a curtain-raiser to the season.

“Fans will get their chance to put questions to players and staff and talk about everything which has happened this summer, including the players who have been brought in and the changes made at the ground.”

The event will start at 7pm, with food and live music also to be provided.
