As things stand, all scheduled League One fixtures are set to go ahead this weekend – including Sunderland’s trip to Blackpool – despite the spread of the disease.

The Premier League, however, are set to hold an emergency meeting this morning to discuss an action plan, with a suspension of the season ‘likely’.

And Lambert feels that similar actions should be taken by the EFL too.

Speaking on Friday, the Ipswich chief said: “Football across the globe should be suspended in my opinion.

“It’s not something to gamble on. If the Premier League have an emergency meeting and take action then it should be the same across the board.

“How can one league do something and the others don’t follow suit? Again, that’s just my opinion.”
