Rumoured Sunderland target Jamie Murphy

Football Insider claimed that the Black Cats are keen on a deal for Murphy, who has fallen out of favour at Ibrox – with Phil Parkinson also pursuing a deal for teammate Greg Docherty.

But Burton Abion are also keen on the two-time Scotland cap, with manager Nigel Clough admitting he had asked about Murphy’s availability this month.

However, the Brewers’ chief believes that finances could prove a stumbling block.

“There has been an inquiry,” Clough confirmed, speaking to Burton Live.

“We know his representative quite well, he looks after a couple of other lads at our place, so that’s how it’s come about.

“But he’s on quite a bit of money at Rangers, so I’m not sure whether there will be anything happening. You never know. It would be a difficult one.”
