Sunderland are already preparing for the January transfer window as they look to build on the momentum they have built up during the opening months of the Premier League season.
Since returning to the top flight with a dramatic Championship play-off final win against Sheffield United, the Black Cats have become the Premier League’s surprise package after producing a whole host of eye-catching results to make a mockery of pre-season predictions of a relegation battle.
Despite Saturday’s disappointing performance in a narrow defeat at Fulham, the move across Wearside is unquestionably positive as Regis Le Bris and his new look squad have spent the majority of the season sat in and around the top eight.
The highly ambitious recruitment drive during the summer transfer window has already paid off in abundance as the likes of Robin Roefs, Noah Sadiki and Granit Xhaka have all quickly established themselves as firm favourites with the Stadium of Light faithful and have given their side a platform to build on during the second half of the season.
January will also offer an opportunity to further boost the Black Cats ranks - but there are also some major calls to be made on the futures of several current members of Le Bris’ squad as they approach key moments in their contracts. There are a number of players that will be free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside of England before making a free transfer move next summer and there are others that will enter the final 18 months of their deals in the new year and could be viewed as attainable targets for other clubs.
