And Sunderland fans had plenty to say about those comments.
On Facebook, Sue Hollins said: ““There is a lot of nonsense that has been talked about Jack,” says Wilder ....well let’s see if he still thinks we talked nonsense come the end of this season.”
Wilf Newall added: “Wilder you’re delusional, I’m a fan and he treated us terrible”
Paul Noble joked: “This news has just ruined my new year.”
But Neil Cain argued: “It’s simple the lad got talent . If anyone can get the best out of him .... Chris Wider is your man.”

@Doddy759 jested: “Careful think he's allergic to red and white stripes he barely puts them on”
@DaveyPalmer1 added: “How any club would want to sign the coward that is #JackRodwell is beyond me.”
@Philip_RJ89 said: “So you can have a wretched, ‘me me me’, money-grabbing kind of attitude, and still bag yourself a deal with a Premier League club. The mind boggles.....”
@graeme7078 tweeted: “He won’t be there long”

@seanc510 added: “Rodwell was a catastrophic disaster due to his attitude, health and inability to actually be good at footy. This is such a disservice to Sunderland and typical of those not watching regularly.”
