Portsmouth in no rush to clear out fringe players on January deadline day

Kenny Jackett has ruled out letting frustrated squad players leave Fratton Park.

Time is ticking for those who are out-of-favour to drive their departure, with January’s transfer window today shutting at 11pm.

The likes of Brett Pitman, Oli Hawkins, Paul Downing and Brandon Haunstrup were omitt... READ MORE HERE

Brandon Haunstrup HAS been attracting interest from Bristol Rovers.

But Pompey are happy to keep the homegrown player, who has made 19 appearances this season, at Fratton Park

The News understands their League One rivals are keen on the 23-year-old, although that’s been denied by manager Sam Garner.

Kenny Jackett has also made it clear he’s not looking to move on the Waterlooville talent before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

Rovers have been busy in the transfer market this month.

Jamal Blackman (Chelsea), Josh Ginnelly (Preston), Jayden Mitchell-Lawson (Derby), Timmy Abraham (Fulham) and Josh Barrett (Reading) are recent additions to the Gas squad and it remains to be seen if they will make a late return to test the water over Haunstrup.

The left-back, who has also operated at right-back for Pompey this season, wasn’t part of the Blues match-day squad that travelled to Lincoln in midweek.

Peterborough's Marcus Maddison set to join Hull City on loan as Tigers search for Jarrod Bowen replacement

Peterborough striker Marcus Maddison is set to join Hull City on loan, according to the Daily Mail.

The 26-year-old is heading to Humberside for a medical.

Maddison will be brought in as replacement for Jarrod Bowen, who is on his way to London for a deadline-day medical at West Ham.

Blackpool have been linked with a move for Reading right-back Teddy Howe, which The Blackpool Gazette understands could well go through today.

They say: "It has been reported elsewhere this will be a loan move until the end of the season but it’s understood this isn’t necessarily the case, as it could be a permanent deal instead."

GOSSIP: Rotherham United and Blackpool

Rotherham United appear to have reignited their interest in Blackpool defender Curtis Tilt.

The Millers, who were keen on signing the 28-year-old during the summer, are in need of another centre-back following an injury to former Seasider Clark Robertson.

Manager Paul Warne was recently quoted as saying he had a target in mind to strengthen his defensive options and it’s understood that man is Tilt.

It was initially believed the Millers would wait until the summer to strike a deal for the defender given his contract expires at the end of the season.

But the South Yorkshire outfit have been strongly linked with a £100,000 move ahead of tonight’s deadline.

Joe Riley delighted to be ‘back up north’ with Mansfield Town

Defender Joe Riley was delighted to join a Mansfield Town side that had hugely impressed him as one of the Plymouth substitutes just a few days earlier.

Argyle won that game 3-1 as Stags paid the price for missed chances, but Riley said: “I thought it was a great game and Mansfield could have been three or four up at half-time.

“We all know the quality in this squad. I though... READ MORE HERE

Martin hopes to bring in 'one or two' on transfer deadline day

It may be a busy day for MK Dons on transfer deadline with Russell Martin aiming to bring in new faces before the 11pm deadline.

Having made three signings during the window so far the Dons boss says he is comfortable with the squad he has at his disposal, but he expects a frantic day as he negotiates ins and outs of Stadium MK.

He said: "I'd expect some more business at some point, but I also wouldn't be surprised... READ MORE HERE

GOSSIP: Sunderland and Blackpool

GOSSIP: Fleetwood Town

Salford are lining up a late move for Fleetwood defender Ashley Eastham, according to Football Insider.

Pompey will rebuff any late transfer deadline swoops for their prized assets.

And there’s been no significant interest in any of their players on deadline day, as things stand.

The Blues are not interested in cashing in on any of their key men as they focus on delivering promotion.

That means there will not be a late exit for the likes of Republic of Ireland international Ronan Curtis.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Championship Blackburn but is seen as key figure, with Kenny Jackett emphatic about him staying put at this late stage.

The same goes for any other players viewed as current regular first teamers.

Oli Hawkins has been mentioned as a possible departure this month.

Hawkins is on the fringes of the first-team squad, but with the 27-year-old’s versatility and attacking power he's now being viewed as useful player to have around.

That means Pompey will not look to move on the former Dagenham & Redbridge man before tonight's 11pm deadline
