Régis Le Bris reacts to Enzo Le Fée's encouraging pre-season form and explains what's impressed him

Sunderland were beaten 4-2 by Liverpool but there were positives to take from the game

Régis Le Bris is encouraged by Enzo Le Fée's goalscoring form at the start of pre-season and believes he is showing how big an impact he can have for Sunderland in 2026/27.

Le Fée scored a stunning long-range strike against Liverpool in the 4-2 defeat over the weekend, having begun the summer with a brace at York City a week previous. It continues an encouraging trend for the 26-year-old, who looked a greater goal threat from open play after returning to his preferred central position in the final weeks of last season.

The Sunderland head coach says there is no doubt about the midfielder's ability to create and connect with his team-mates but thinks an added goal threat can take his game to another level.

"In this central corridor, he's brilliant," Le Bris said.

"He can connect with the other midfielders with mobility, freedom. The connection with the centre backs and others is improving as well. He's a creative player and if after that he can become even more decisive [in front of goal], he's going to be even more impactful in games."

After an open training session for supporters on Sunday, Sunderland's US tour now moves to New Jersey where the Black Cats will face Leeds United. Le Bris's squad will be bolstered by the returns of Noah Sadiki, Habib Diarra, Robin Roefs, Brian Brobbey, Arthur Masuaku and Simon Adingra following their World Cup commitments. Le Bris believes those who have been involved in the first two games have set the standard for those now returning.

"It's going to be positive," Le Bris said.

"The first group worked really well and for the players who will join now, they will feel the core of the squad is ready. They have to connect with us now, this World Cup experience will be huge and useful for their future.”
