Sunderland hire ex-Norwich City and Rochdale staff member under Régis Le Bris amid academy changes
Sunderland have strengthened their analysis set-up with a new Academy of Light appointment
Sunderland have added to their Academy of Light staffing structure with the appointment of Jack Bewley as a first-team analyst under Régis Le Bris.
Bewley joins Sunderland after working as a first-team analyst intern at Rochdale during the 2025-26 campaign. He has also previously gained experience as a set-piece analyst intern at Norwich City, while his LinkedIn profile lists previous performance analysis work with FC Marshalls.
His arrival comes as Sunderland continues to strengthen their football operation following promotion back to the Premier League. The Black Cats have already added quality across several departments since returning to the top flight, and further growth behind the scenes is expected as the club further develops their Academy of Light set-up.
Sunderland have also recently advertised for another senior analyst role, underlining the club’s desire to add further resources to their analysis department. While the Black Cats have punched above their weight this season, there remains an acceptance that Premier League football brings a major step up not only on the pitch, but also in staffing, infrastructure and preparation.
Bewley studied Science and Football at Liverpool John Moores University, where he achieved a 2:1, and will now continue his development while working within Sunderland’s performance environment. His new role will also run alongside further academic study, with Bewley completing an MSc in Sport Performance Analysis with the University of Worcester.

Confirming the move on LinkedIn, Bewley wrote: “I’m delighted to share that I have accepted a position as MSc First Team Analyst at Sunderland AFC. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to develop and learn within an elite environment, and I’m excited to contribute to the club moving forward.
“Alongside this role, I will be completing my MSc in Sport Performance Analysis with the University of Worcester Performance Analysis, giving me the opportunity to apply my academic learning within a real-world elite sporting environment. I’m looking forward to getting started and embracing the challenges ahead.”
Sunderland are back in action against Chelsea in the Premier League at the Stadium of Light this weekend, with a place in Europe on the line for Le Bris’ men.
