Eliezer Mayenda issues first words as a Stade Rennais player as Sunderland transfer confirmed
Sunderland have confirmed the departure of striker Eliezer Mayenda
Eliezer Mayenda has completed his move to Stade Rennais.
The 21-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the Ligue 1 club, after Sunderland agreed a deal that could net the club around £22 million if all add-ons are realised.
A club statement said: “Everyone at Sunderland AFC would like to thank Eliezer for his contribution during his time at the club and wish him every success in the next chapter of his career.”
Mayenda issued an emotional farewell to Sunderland supporters on Saturday evening ahead of the deal being confirmed, and told Stade Rennais club media that he was excited for his next chapter.
“I am very happy to join Stade Rennais, a big club that was often talked about back at Sochaux,” Mayenda said.
“I’d describe myself as a complete forward who likes to run in behind, dribble, and take on defenders. I can’t wait to play at Roazhon Park, team up with my new teammates, and discover Ligue 1—an underrated league."
The club’s sporting director, Loic Desire, said Mayenda’s attitude and dedication were key reasons why they had pushed to make the deal happen this summer.
“We were looking for a fast player capable of stretching the defense; Eliezer can play both out wide and through the middle,” Desire said.
“He is a young player, yet he has already experienced several leagues and different countries. We know his potential; he will settle into the squad, and I have no doubts about him. His mentality is exemplary. We’ve received excellent feedback regarding his attitude, which is just as important as what he’ll show on the pitch."

CEO Arnaud Pouille added: “There was real competition for Eliezer, and he showed unwavering determination to join us.
“We are proud to see him sign with Stade Rennais today. We are delighted to welcome him and his family to the *Rouge et Noir family. I wish him a smooth transition into the dressing room, where he can bring all his qualities to the team.”
Eliezer Mayenda’s farewell to Sunderland fans
"It's time for me to say goodbye.... and it isn't easy," Mayenda wrote on Instagram.
"Three years ago, I arrived at Sunderland as a young player with big dreams. Today, I leave with memories and emotions that I will carry with me forever. I had the privilege of wearing this shirt, sharing unforgettable moments with my teammates and experience that magical day at Wembley with all of you, when we helped bring Sunderland back where it belongs: the Premier League.
"I would like to thank Chairman Kyril Louis-Dreyfus. Thank you for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to join this incredible club. I will always be grateful. Thank you to my team mates, the staff and everyone who works so hard every day to make this club what it is. And finally...
"To you, the supporters. From day one, you believed in me. Season after season, you stood by me. I arrived here as Eliezer. I leave as your "Big Man". I'll carry that name with me forever. You have to experience Sunderland to truly understand what "Sunderland 'Til I Die" really means. As I leave this club, one thing is certain: Sunderland will always be a part of me. Thank you for everything. HA'WAY THE LADS. Eliezer Mayenda. Your Big Man."
