Victor Anichebe's Instagram message to Sunderland fans following Lincoln City play-off loss

Former Sunderland striker Victor Anichebe was quick to respond to the Black Cats’ loss in the League One play-off semi-finals.

Lee Johnson’s men failed to overcome Lincoln City over two legs in the play-off semi-final and now face a fourth straight season in the third tier of English football.

Goals from Ross Stewart and Charlie Wyke put the Black Cats 2-0 ahead at the break.

That meant the aggregate score was level at 2-2 but a disappointing second half saw Lincoln City through.

And former Sunderland striker Anchiebe was quick to react to the result on social media – and moved to back head coach Lee Johnson following the fixture in front of 10,000 fans at the Stadium of Light.

Speaking on Instagram, Anichebe said: “Tough to take that! Great first half performance. Next season automatic promotion only. Hopefully the gaffer can get in the players he wants and prepare.”
