Durham Cricket announce closure Emirates Riverside to the public following coronavirus outbreak and lockdown

Durham Cricket have closed their Emirates Riverside ground to the public due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Durham’s Chester-Le-Street base will also be closed to ‘all non-essential’ staff in a decision which will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.

In a Durham Cricket statement, chief executive Tim Bostock, said: “Throughout this ongoing situation the Senior Leadership Team at the club have been meeting on a daily basis and reviewing our operational practices in line with Government advice.

“All decisions have been taken with the health and safety of our customers and staff in mind. Most staff have been working from home since last week and we have now taken the decision to close Emirates Riverside entirely to minimise any risks to staff and customers.”

Durham have also offered the use of the Riverside facilities and staff support to the local council and NHS.
