South Shields FC have this message for season ticket holders after campaign is cut short

South Shields FC have thanked those season ticket holders who have waived their right to a partial refund for the remaining home games of the 2019-20 season after it was cut-short due to the coronavirus pandemic.

And the club say they would be ‘extremely grateful’ if others chose to do the same to help ensure the club’s financial position remains as stable as possible.

However, they also stress they would of course honour any requests for a refund given the financial pressures on households in such uncertain times.

Shields were top of the BetVictor Premier Division table and led nearest rivals FC United of Manchester by 12 points before the season was ended early.

In a message sent out to season ticket holders, South Shields FC said: “The early conclusion to the 2019-20 season as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, and the decision to null and void the campaign at our level, has been well-documented.

“It is also well-known that our final four home league fixtures in the 2019-20 campaign – which were expected to attract among our biggest attendances of the season – were cancelled, which led to a loss of anticipated income and presented significant financial challenges for us in March and April.

“Our supporters – as they so often do – helped us tremendously in meeting those challenges. The backing given to early bird season tickets, our food delivery service, the ordering of merchandise and support for several other initiatives have been fantastic boosts.

“We are also well aware that many supporters may have questions regarding 2019-20 season tickets, and whether they are entitled to a refund for the equivalent value of the four fixtures which did not take place at the end of the campaign.

“A significant number of season ticket holders have already informed us that they do not wish to seek any partial refund, which is an incredible gesture which will help us greatly when looking at the challenges ahead as the country emerges from lockdown.

“We would be extremely grateful if other season ticket holders were to also waive the right to a partial refund if they are in a position to do so, as it would assist enormously in ensuring our financial situation remains as stable as possible. We realise this is a lot to ask and would of course honour any requests should they be made. We would also completely understand these requests, especially at a time of such financial uncertainty for many people.

“Should you waive the right to a partial refund of your 2019-20 season ticket, we would be happy to offer free entry to at least two pre-season friendlies and/or cup matches once we understand how things will look in the new season, as a token of our gratitude.

“As well as the options previously mentioned, you can also choose to use the funds you would have received from a partial refund to make a charitable contribution to our Foundation.

“If you would like a partial refund, to convert the partial refund into free entry to pre-season or cup fixtures, or for these funds to be donated to the Foundation, please email [email protected] with your choice by Friday, July 3. The reason for this deadline is so the club can plan its financial future with more confidence.

“If we are not contacted by that date we will assume you wish to waive your right to a refund and offer you our sincere thanks for doing so.”
