Now, with the help of two local business partners - whom he met while entertaining overseas - he is preparing to launch his production company, Vitus Entertainment.

As well as producing their own shows, the company will provide performers for clients and events, including singers, dancers and speciality acts such as circus skills and stilt walkers.

The motivation behind it came from a desire to promote young performers in the region, says Gary.

“There’s not enough opportunities for performers in the North East,” he said.

“It’s a big risk to make that move to London, so as well as providing world class entertainment for our clients, hopefully we’ll provide work for North East performers.”

Partners, Jennifer and John Gaskell, who both come from successful business backgrounds, were so impressed by Gary’s “passion” that they have chosen to back him in the venture.

“It works well because they are audience members and know what they look to see on the stage,” said Gary.

“I’m going to do my best to prove to them that they have made the right decision.”

John, contracts and development director of the Millfield Group, whose recent projects include the redevelopment of Spanish City, Whitley Bay, added: “I am looking forward to bringing my widespread experience to this new project and have high hopes that what the team are putting together will bring something unique and exciting to the entertainment world.”

Vitus Entertainment will hold a launch event on February 19 from 1pm-4pm in the Grand Hall at the Discovery Museum, Newcastle with a showcase of entertainment including a performance by Walsh Arts and Theatre students.
