The programme is funded through the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority's Events and Participation Programme and offers emerging and established performers aged 14 and older from the North East the chance to perform live, develop songwriting and stagecraft skills, and learn more about PA operation and event production.

South Tyneside musicians and bands are encouraged to apply for the chance to perform at live music showcases in front of real audiences.

The council’s ‘The Next Big Thing!’ is back and offers emerging and established performers aged 14 and older from the North East to perform live, develop songwriting and stagecraft skills, learn more about PA operation and event production and to build their industry knowledge.

Additionally, successful applicants will have the chance to access networking and mentoring opportunities with industry professionals and could potentially progress to performances at other events.

The programme is funded through the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority’s Events and Participation Programme.

Organisers say that under 16s must be accompanied by an adult and participating performers will receive a fee and/or expenses, helping to make the opportunity accessible to more people.

The council’s website reads: “Whether you're taking your first steps into live performance or looking for more opportunities to showcase your talent, we want to hear from you.”

“There is so much creative talent here in the North East”

Cllr David Royal, Lead Member for Culture, Leisure, Tourism and the Voluntary Sector, said: “It’s fantastic to see Next! Big Thing return, giving emerging artists a platform to showcase their talent and giving audiences the chance to discover some brilliant new music.

“We know there is so much creative talent here in the North East and this is all about celebrating it, supporting artists as they develop and creating great live experiences for people to enjoy.

“I’d encourage people to take a look at what’s coming up, discover their next favourite artist and get behind the fantastic talent we have here in our region.”
