9. Elmer's Great North Parade, until November 1
Elmer's Great North Parade is running around the region until November 1. There are 50 uniquely-decorated elephants to spot in Sunderland, South Tyneside and across the North East. 10. Penshaw Monument tour, September 28 & 29
Enjoy the magnificent views of Sunderland and the North East from the top of Penshaw Monument, climbing to the top through the secret staircase as part of special tours taking place this weekend on September 28 & 29. The tours are led by a small team of volunteers, so they can only permit five visitors at a time. Each tour runs for 15 minutes with slots available from 10am to 4.45pm and are free for National Trust members, and cost £5 each for non-members.
