Everything you need to know about South Shields Easter market - including stalls, music and entertainment on offer
An impressive line-up of local entertainment has been announced as plans for the upcoming Easter market are taken up a notch.
The highly-anticipated Easter event in Market Place, South Shields is due to take place on Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5, with a range of stalls, music and entertainment.
A line-up of local talent has now been announced, headlined by The Breakfast Club, who supported Midge Ure in Bents Park last summer.
Singer Amelia Saleh, budding star Lily Cooke and Cafe 42’s Sam Clark and his band are also due to draw the crowds.
Meanwhile students from Melanie Moore Dance Academy will be putting on a special performance and organisers have confirmed that the Easter Bunny himself will be making an appearance on the day.
The event will also see a wide range of traders descend on Market Square, selling everything from seasonal foods and sweet treats to homeware, fashion and accessories.
It comes following the success of the Christmas market in 2019, which saw thousands of shoppers hit the town, with the regular market enjoying a boost in traders in the weeks after.
The event was launched by local business owners Carol Gibson, Josh Truman and market manager David Amess with the backing of South Tyneside councillor John Anglin in a bid to bring the once-thriving market back to life.
The Facebook group Bring South Shields Market Back to the Way it Was now has thousands of members online.
Earlier this year it was announced that the April dates would be the first of a run of monthly market events organised by the team, with three Christmas markets expected to be held in December 2020.
“I’m over the moon with the range and quality of the stalls this time,” she commented.
“This is definitely an amazing group of traders and we’ve attracted even more since the Christmas mas event.”
She added: “The entertainment is the very best in the field and each have their own followers, so we’re feeling really positive about it.”
