Families invited to share their love of computer games this summer at Life Science Centre exhibition

Game On 2.0, at the North East’s Life Science Centre, is running throughout the summer until Wednesday, September 4. It explores the past five decades of computer gaming and showcases more than 150 playable games.

As part of the display, adults are being challenged to take part in a new online video-based game to guess characters featured across the exhibition – but they can only use the cryptic clues of children.

The creation of the new game within a gaming exhibition sounds like it could be straight out of Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror or Christopher Nolan’s Inception; and it’s something the whole family could enjoy during the summer break.

Sarah Reed, Communications and Special Events Manager at Life, said: “The exhibition provides a great opportunity for parents to reminisce with their families about playing early video games.

“Whilst a lot has changed over the past few decades, the children interviewed in our new game selected iconic characters that are as popular today as when their parents were mesmerised by them in the 1980s and early-1990s.”

Visitors to Game On 2.0 can also explore the history, culture and future of gaming, including how virtual reality is creating ever-more immersive gaming experiences.

Entry to the exhibition is included with admission to Life Science Centre.
