5. Cooking with Elvis, Royalty Theatre, Sunderland, until
Sunderland’s Royalty Theatre will continue their 2019/20 season in rockabilly style with the black comedy Cooking with Elvis until November 2. Written by Lee Hall of The Pitmen Painters and Billy Elliot fame, the play focuses on the family of an Elvis impersonator who has been left paralysed in a car crash. His wife has become an alcoholic, and their daughter Jill is obsessed with cooking – as well as her mother’s young lover. Director Corinne Kilvington takes the role of the mother. She said: “Having played Jill when the Royalty Theatre first staged this show 11 years ago, I was really excited to help bring it back to the same stage. This is a fast-paced, funny show which is more than a little bit rude, but still packs a punch, and that asks a lot of the cast that perform it. So grab yourself a drink, settle in and prepare yourself for an evening of what can only be described as good old-fashioned entertainment.” | Other 3rd Party Photo: Submitted
