5. Brass Bands at The Amphitheatre, South Shields
Music fans are invited to make the most of some bold as brass entertainment this summer. Brass bands from across the region will perform at a series of free outdoor concerts at the Sandhaven Amphitheatre, as part of the South Tyneside Festival. Bands will play every Sunday until September 1. 6. Kynren, Bishop Auckland, until September 14
Outdoor theatre show Kynren is running at Auckland Castle in Bishop Auckland until September 14. Presented by Eleven Arches on a seven-and-a-half acre stage, 1,000 cast and crew immerse you in the telling of a 2,000-year tale; the history of England. Kynren brings to ground-shaking life the story of invasions, royal splendour, wars, heroic sacrifice, daily life and seismic change. 7. John Peter Askew exhibition, NGCA, until August 18
John Peter Askew exhibition We is at Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art, within National Glass Centre, until Sunday, August 18. For 30 years the photographer has travelled to the easternmost city in Europe, Perm, in Russia. ‘We’ is a kind of epic Russian novel told across multiple generations, based on the lives of a single family, the Chulakovs. The exhibition reveals this landmark body of work for the first time.
