The annual Heritage Open Days scheme is a free national event which encourages local people to enjoy the culture around them.
And it’s back in South Tyneside from this Friday covering great opportunities in South Shields, Jarrow, Whitburn and others.
While it won’t be extensive as in previous years, it’s still a great opportunity to see properties that are usually closed to the public or normally charge admission.
And here's a taster of what you can see.

5. Staying at Arbeia
The open day programme stays at Arbeia on September 17 for a tour of the Commanding Officer's house on the afternoon. It starts at 2pm, lasts for 45 minutes and will again be led by the curator. Photo: Stu Norton
