South Tyneside choir who are unable to perform due to coronavirus restrictions launching social programme to keep community together

Choirmaster, which was founded in February last year, is currently unable to perform due to coronavirus restrictions on large gatherings, but instead the group will be holding a number of activities for residents to take part in, including quizzes, bingo and trivia talks.

Usually, Choirmaster acts as a social group for residents across South Tyneside, giving people all over the region a community hub.

However, due to the coronavirus lockdown the group is having to adapt to a new normal but founder Adam Allinson is still keen to make sure everyone in the community has somewhere to go.

He said: “These sessions are going to be a great way to get back together, get out the house and have a wonderful time.

I’ve always believed Choirmaster is so much more than a choir and till singing is allowed, this will allow us to bring people back together across our wonderful community!"

Choirmaster has singers ranging from 18 to 80 and encourages complete diversity, opening itself up to members of all ages and abilities.

These new sessions will be open to all and free of charge, with the group only asking for voluntary donations.

The sessions begin next week, taking place at Ocean Road Community Centre, South Shields and The Elmfield Social Club, Hebburn.

Pre booking is recommended as numbers will be limited and can be done via the Choirmaster website.
