9. Stanhope Pool, Weardale
Its large pool is joined by a smaller pool for youngsters to take a dip, with a hot sauna available on request, a soft play area free to use and cafe tables, with snacks and drinks available from reception. Photo: Fiona Thompson
10. Crammel Linn, Gilsland
If you're up for an adventure, this spot near Gilsland off the A69 offers a swim with a waterfall. Park up near Wobiegill Sike and carefully follow the pathways down to the River Irthing for a very cold dip. Photo: Fiona Thompson
11. North Yorkshire Water Park, Wykeham, near Scarborough
Launched as a new attraction in 2018, it offers open water swimming and has its own club. It runs an inflatable course, sailing, stand up paddle boarding, pedalos and fishing and has its own cafe and cycle tracks and walks. Photo: David Harrison
