The band, fronted by Ginger Wildheart, will play their first South Shields gig in many years on Wednesday, April 29, at the Hedworth Hall.

It is the second high-profile show being held at the venue, following one by another local band, The Toy Dolls, on Thursday, April 16, which has already sold out.

The Wildhearts were formed in 1989, and have been at the forefront of the British rock scene since their classic debut album Earth vs The Wildhearts (voted No 1 album of the year in Kerrang! back in 1993, and No 20 in the best rock albums of all time in a Kerrang! special in 2006).

Although the ‘90s saw the band hit the headlines through controversy, recent years have seen them more focused than ever.

Last year saw the release of Renaissance Men, their first full-length studio album in 10 years, which was hailed as one of the best of their career.

The one constant in The Wildhearts' story is founder and frontman Ginger, and the current line-up includes long-time bandmate Danny McCormack on bass, CJ on guitar and Ritch Battersby on drums.
