While only a handful of these establishments possess the coveted Michelin star, they are all recommended by the judges. The 2020 edition of the guidebook is published in October.
1. Eslington Villa, Gateshead
Michelin say: "This bright, airy hotel dining room feels like a conservatory and offers pleasant views over the tiered gardens. Menus are based on dishes people know and love and come with a few unusual twists along the way."
2. Feathers Inn, Hedley on the Hill
Michelin say: "This warm, welcoming pub is set on a steep hill in the heart of a characterful village and is a hub of the local community. Constantly evolving menus highlight Northumbrian produce and everything is made in-house."
3. House of Tides, Newcastle
Michelin say: "The upstairs restaurant boasts carved beams and a stone fireplace. Well-balanced tasting menus list attractively presented, accomplished dishes with a creative style." One Michelin Star.
4. River Cafe on the Tyne, North Shields
Michelin say: "A laid-back restaurant run by a friendly local team, set above a pub in the North Shields fish quay. The daily changing à la carte offers unfussy bistro-style dishes of fresh local produce."
