Tinker Smiths on Stanhope Street has been a big hit with punters since coming onto the Shields nightlife scene in December 2015.

Boasting a 150-capacity ground floor bar, the venue also has a cocktail bar and an overflow bar for peak times, as well as a private function room for events.

It launched its 200 capacity first floor bar, branded Tinkers Loft in December 2018 following the complete revamp, with brand new fixtures and fittings including a purpose-built bar and booth seating.

And now Tinker Smiths owner Scott Thompson has decided to put the bar up for sale as he looks to concentrate on his other business ventures.

But staff and customers need not be concerned as the bar will continue to trade despite being up for sale.

Owner Mr Scott Thompson said: “I’ve had Tinkers for five years now and I’ve taken the decision to sell and concentrate on my other business, away from the Licensed trade.

“We will continue to run the bar as usual, so staff and customers need not be concerned.

The venue has gone on the market for £80,000 through specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, who say the new owners would be able to take on a recently refurbished bar that is ready to trade.

The bar’s location also benefits from a taxi rank right in front of the bar and close transport links with South Shields Metro Station and Keppel Street bus station.

Christie & Co say that there is also scope to increase the number of function room bookings and to extend trading hours.

David Cash, Christie & Co associate director, said: “Tinker Smiths is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic owner-operator willing to go in and build on what is an already a very well-established business, which still has significant potential to grow.”
