The new app will initially be available for customers in South Shields on Sunday only, from 9am-3pm, but bosses aim to roll out home delivery options covering seven days a week by spring 2020 depending on customer demand.

It’s safe to say the news went down well with Gazette readers, who were delighted to hear they can now enjoy their Saveloy dip from the comfort of their own home.

But fans from beyond South Tyneside want a slice of the action too.

There were comments from readers up and down the UK – from as far as Fife, Glasgow, Hampshire and Kent - all asking if they could get in on the home delivery.
