Families praise South Tyneside schools for going above and beyond during pandemic

It goes without saying that school staff have been a lifeline to South Tyneside families during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Whether your children have been learning from home or able to attend class in person, they would have been lost without the support of their school’s staff during an academic year filled with ever-changing restrictions and uncertainty.

Every single member of staff involved in supporting our young people across South Tyneside and beyond deserves our heartfelt thanks.

We asked you to shine a light on your child’s school, and tell us what they have done to help your family during the tough times.

Anne McDowell: “St Aloysius in Hebburn have been brilliant. The staff have worked so hard to support students and also the wider community.

"They even went the extra mile to ensure the kids' handmade Christmas cards were safely dropped off at our door when the class had to isolate!”

Kristie Howden: “Epinay School have done everything to make sure not just my child but all of them are receiving the help and support they require. Thank you Epinay.”

Stevie-Jay Elliott: “Westoe Crown! Mr Price has been great making sure parents are informed, that all safety measures are in place and that contact with kids is regular.

"Teachers ringing home regularly to make sure families have what they need.”

Laura Dobson: “Bede Burn Primary School. They have been amazing from the start. All of the staff have gone above and beyond to support all the children and parents, It's an amazing school.”

Vicky Buzzard: “Hadrian Primary have been amazing! I honestly don't feel my kids have missed out on any education at all.”

Courtney Routledge: “St Oswald's CE VA Primary School they always go above and beyond for all the children! And it’s an amazing school! The staff have worked amazing through the pandemic to accommodate for all children!”

Lezlie Howard: “Harton Primary have been amazing. But in all fairness all schools have gone above and beyond.”

Steff Curry: “Ridgeway Primary Academy! My daughter moved there when she went into Year 2 and is now in Year 3. She has came on leaps and bounds even during the pandemic!”

Lynda Sewell: “Keelman's Way School have been fabulous, weekly phone calls, weekly work packs, and availability to craft resources. Even on line classes.

"All staff have gone above and beyond. Children still received awards, and birthday wishes via YouTube. Well done all staff.”
