South Tyneside families share their back-to-school views as children return to classrooms

Many schoolchildren in England will return to the classroom for the first time in the coming days after spending months at home due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As families prepare for the next step, we asked you how you were feeling about your children going back to class.

Certain year groups returned to school before the summer break, some children attended throughout lockdown and others remained at home for the duration.

Melanie Barnes: “It’s essential they get back to normality! Whilst it’s been fabulous spending time with family, the children need their routine back for mental and physical health and to be amongst their peers!”

Nicola George: “The kids need to back to school and routine. I know mine is looking forward to it and more than ready.”

Joanne Woodward Armour: “Mine can’t wait to return! I’m looking forward to routine and I have no anxieties at all! One of my children did six weeks before the summer and it was fine.”

Rebecca Jayne Robinson: “Mine are looking forward to it and both were in the whole of lockdown as I'm a key worker. The children need to get back to a bit of normality for their mental health. Our school are amazing.”

Donna Watson: “A bit apprehensive, but my son is looking forward to seeing his friends, not so keen on schoolwork and homework though.”

Sherina Mcgee: “Looking forward to getting back into a routine and back to school. But I am feeling a bit anxious about how the schools are going to manage and keep them safe.”

Gill Woodward: “Mine is looking forward to going to see teachers and friends but a bit scared of how it's going to be.”

Sophie-Jane Williams: “It’s not the kids that are at risk, it’s the fact they can bring the virus back to those in their family who might be at risk.”

Rachel Lydon: “My girls can’t wait to see their friends and have some normality back into their lives. Yes it's a little worrying of what ‘might’ happen but this could be our new norm for a little while. We best get used to it.”
