All the places that will close when Lockdown 2 starts on Thursday

The new rules require certain businesses and venues to close from Thursday, November 5 until Wednesday, December 2.

These places include all non-essential retail, indoor and outdoor leisure facilities, entertainment venues and personal care facilities such as hair, beauty and nail salons.

We will only be allowed to leave the house for childcare or education, when lesson are not online, for work, to exercise outside or visit somewhere outside – this being limited to who it can be with – or for medical appointments and emergencies including domestic abuse.

You are allowed to shop for basic necessities and visit members of your support bubble or provide care for vulnerable people.

*Betting shops

*Auction houses

*Tailors

*Car washes

*Tobacco and vape shops

Guidance says indoor and outdoor leisure facilities include:

*Leisure centres and gyms

*Sports facilities including swimming pools, golf courses and driving ranges, dance studios, stables and riding centres, soft play facilities, climbing walls and climbing centres

*Archery and shooting ranges

*Water and theme parks

What does the government class as entertainment venues?

Guidance says entertainment venues include:

*Theatres

*Concert halls

*Cinemas, museums and galleries

*Casinos, adult gaming centres and arcades

*Bingo halls

*Bowling alleys

*Zoos and other animal attractions

*Botanical gardens

What does the government class as personal care facilities?

*Hair, beauty and nail salons

*Tattoo parlours

What businesses and venues are allowed to remain open?

The government guidance states that “food shops, supermarkets, garden centres and certain other retailers providing essential goods and services can remain open.” As well as playgrounds and hotels for those travelling for work purposes and venues for specific activities, like childcare and support groups.

Can hospitality venues and non-essential retail remain open for takeaway and delivery?

Yes, eateries and non-essential retail can provide takeaway, delivery services and click-and-collect. However takeaway of alcohol will not be allowed.
