South Shields family's messages of support for key workers
A South Shields family have gone all out to show their support for key workers during the coronavirus crisis.
Charity champion Tony Carlisle, wife Nicola and daughters, Summer, 11, Toni, nine, and Taylor-Skye, six, have decorated their Cauldwell Villas home with thank you notes for key workers.
The girls made their own signs to spur on essential workers such as NHS staff, teachers, waste collectors and postal workers which they displayed alongside rainbows outside the house.
To mark the second national Clap for our Carers event on Thursday, April 2 the family stood near the entrance of the hospital A&E department, alongside the fire service to celebrate the work of the NHS and emergency services.

They were overwhelmed by the response from hospital staff and officers from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, who were there to show their own appreciation.
“My family was so proud of our part, but the response we received was absolutely magical,” said Tony.
“The girls got many compliments from both fire service personnel and a honk from the fire engine on departure, and hospital staff shouted many verbal tributes.”

The family say they plan to return to the hospital each week to pay tribute to those fighting COVID-19 on the frontline.
“It was an amazing feeling in celebrating the awesome work of the NHS and to see and hear their response,” Tony added.
“I am one really proud dad, both Nicola and I had butterflies.

“We intend to make the visit a ritual at South Tyneside Hospital every Thursday at 8pm.”
