South Shields FC have confirmed former Newcastle United youngster Kyle Crossley has left the club after his short-term contract came to an end.
The versatile forward joined the Mariners during the summer of 2024 when he was reunited with his former Magpies academy coach Elliott Dickman at Mariners Park. A promising first season played out as Crossley netted ten goals and provided seven assists in 44 National League North appearances - but his second year with South Shields was decimated by an anterior cruciate and meniscus injury that left him on the sidelines for the entire campaign.

After making a tentative return during the summer as Mike Williamson settled into life as Mariners head coach, Crossley was handed a short-term deal and made late substitute appearances in wins against Hednesford Town and Buxton over the last two months and found the net in a Durham Challenge tie against Gateshead Rutherford. However, his time as a South Shields players has now come to an end and the Mariners have thanked the forward for his contribution during his time with the club.
A club statement released on Monday read: “Kyle Crossley has departed the Club upon the expiration of his contract. Kyle signed for the Mariners under Elliott Dickman during the 24/25 season and made 45 appearances for the club, contributing to 22 goals. During the 25/26 pre-season, Kyle suffered an ACL & Meniscus injury against Carlisle United, leaving him sidelined for the remainder of the season.
“Kyle signed two short-term deals with the Club during the 26/27 season to assist with his return to full fitness. During that time, Kyle made 3 appearances and scored in the Durham Challenge Cup. We’d like to thank Kyle for his contributions during his time with us and wish him all the best moving forward.”
The Mariners are back in action this weekend when they host National League North rivals Southport at Mariners Park. The visitors will arrive on South Tyneside looking to claim their first win under new manager Calum McIntyre.
