This is what you had to say via the Shields Gazette Facebook page:

Robert Johnson: “Been many a time over the years, engagement parties, Halloween, or catch up with pals. Grandad used to work the cocktail bar back in the 50s.

“Now ran by great staff, management and chefs!

“Top food and cracking beer, looking forward to driving 30 miles for a Sunday dinner when it reopens.”

Margaret Dolan: “Used to be a great place, hope they make it so again. Cocktail lounge upstairs in the back room was great when I was 16/17-years-old to go and hang out.”

Roger Sanderson: “My parents held their wedding reception there in 1948.”

Bob Freber: “Used to go to wedding functions upstairs in the banqueting suite. Great venue then, many hotels up Seaburn are making a killing with rooms and decent chefs.”

Lorraine Burgham: “I remember going to this pub with my mam and dad when I was in my teens. Have very fond memories.”

Graham Davies: “Time Warp disco in the function room, that was before they made a mess of the building.

“Cocktail bar, restaurant, rooms all had a good name before the shipyards, pits etc. were closed down.”

Jan Sloane: “Had my wedding reception here in 1961, still have lovely memories and photos to look back on both inside and outside.”

Elaine Coxon Buchholz: “I grew up around the corner and it’s still my favourite place to drink. Even after living in the USA for over 30 years.”
