The former Marsden Rattler, on Sea Road, South Shields, reopened this weekend under its new guise of Platform 33.
The seafront pub was taken over in October last year by the owners of popular Seaburn establishment The Promenade and Cosy Joe’s in Newcastle city centre.

But it finally reopened its doors on Friday, March 6 to eager punters queuing out onto the street.
“The response has been fantastic, all of the feedback that we have had has been really positive,” said manager, David Wardle, who previously said he hoped to create the ‘place to go in South Shields’.
“As soon as the doors opened people started flooding in, it was so unexpected.

“It’s been a long time coming, so it’s good to see it finally come into play.”
The surprise takeover came just months after the Rattler underwent a £70,000 refurbishment early in 2019.
Now Platform 33 is aiming to appeal to every target market with an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet, carvery every day from 12pm-7pm and entertainment most evenings from 8pm until late.

Other gimmicks include call buttons in booths which alert the staff to a request for table service and pooch-friendly ‘pens’ for diners with dogs, as well as canines being welcome in the bar area.
David added: “I just want to thank everyone for their patience and I hope people will come along now we’re finally ready to unveil Platform 33.”
Platform 33 is open 9am-11pm Sunday-Thursday and 9am-1am Friday and Saturday.
