Extra ferry crossings will be in place for the Great North Run.

Nexus has confirmed that there will be additional Shields Ferry services on the day of the Great North Run.

More than 60,000 runners will cross the finish line, in South Shields, on Sunday, September 13, and the Shields Ferry will be on hand to help people get home.

The first Shields Ferry service will start at 7.45am from South Shields and will run until 6pm - with extra crossings in place throughout the day.

Nexus has confirmed that both vessels will be running throughout Sunday.

Those who have a travel ticket for the Shields Ferry are asked to have it handy and those who don’t have a ticket can buy one on the Pop App or at the Ferry Landing.

A queuing system will be in place on Harton Quay to help manage the crowds and those travelling as told to expect a “significant wait” due to it being the Ferry’s “busiest day of the year”.
