Can you help celebrate 70 years of the NHS?

Phil Brown has organised a get-together for hospital staff and former patients to pay homeage to the service which has helped save thousands of people’s lives over the decades.

The event will take place at the Quality Hotel in Boldon on July 5.

Mr Brown, who has recently retired from nursing, said: “I am grateful for the NHS, as at four-weeks old, it helped save my life when I suffered from a cerebral haemmorhage.

“The night aims to celebrate the national and especially the local achievements of the NHS and those working within the service.

“The night will also celebrate healthcare in both f the borough’s hospitals - South Tyneside District Hospital and Palmer’s Hospital - as well as the health care offered in the community.

“Stories from the Ingham Infirmary will also play a part in the celebrations.”

The NHS was founded in the post war era following on from the Beveridge Report - which led to the creation of the NHS.

Throughout the night people will be able to share their stories and memories from years gone by. There will also be entertainment, auction and raffle.

Meals will also be provided, if booked in advance.
