Collision with car leaves pedestrian with head injuries after crash on busy South Shields road

A pedestrian has been taken to hospital after sustaining head injuries in a collision with a car.

The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) and Northumbria Police were called to Galsworthy Road in Whiteleas, South Shields, at 3.30pm today, Friday, October 16, following reports of a crash.

Police officers cordoned off the street as investigations were carried out into the circumstances of the incident, with a collision investigation unit part of the response sent to the scene, near to the junction of Geoffrey Street.

A spokesperson for NEAS said: “We got a call at 3.30pm to a report of a collision between a pedestrian and a car.

"We dispatched a paramedic ambulance and a Hazardous Area Response Team and we took one patient to the Royal Victoria Infirmary with head injuries.”
