Woman rescued from water at Sandhaven beach

Northumbria Police and the South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade (SSVLB) attended South Shields seafront, near to the New Sundial pub, between 11am and 11.30am on Wednesday, October 14.

The call-out followed concerns for a woman in the area.

A police spokesperson said: “At 11am yesterday (Wednesday, October 14) we received a report of concern for a woman near The New Sundial pub, South Shields.

Emergency services attended and the woman was brought to safety. She was left in the care of medical professionals.”

The South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade confirmed on its Facebook page that the team was called to assist police shortly before 11.30am on Wednesday.

A statement added: “ The team were tasked to assist police with a female retrieved from the water.

“As team members arrived [the woman] was being placed into their vehicle, rather than wait for an ambulance, they took her straight to hospital.”
