Detectives investigating the theft of a purse from a Tesco store in South Shields have released an image of a man they would like to trace.

An investigation was launched after a woman reported her purse had been stolen from the Tesco, on Towers Place.

The woman entered the toilets and inadvertently left her purse on the shelf, before leaving the area.

When she realised, she returned to the toilet but the purse – which contained cash, bank cards and other personal items – had gone.

As part of their ongoing enquiries of incident, which took place on February 6, officers have identified a man they would like to speak to in connection with the theft.

He was in the store at the time of the offence and could have information.
