Second arrest in South Shields murder investigation after Brandon Lee named as victim

A South Shields man has been arrested in connection with a murder investigation in the town, following the death of Jarrow lad Brandon Lee at a property in Victoria Road.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder inquiry and remains in the custody of Northumbria Police, the force confirmed on Thursday, May 14.

Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man, arrested on Tuesday, May 12 in the aftermath of the incident in the early hours of the morning, also remains in custody.

Emergency services were called to Victoria Road, South Shields, at around 4am on Tuesday this week to reports of an unresponsive man who had suffered injuries consistent with a bladed article.

Speaking on Thursday, Northumbria Police’s Detective Chief Inspector Shelley Hudson said: “We have arrested a second man, a 25-year-old from the South Shields area, in connection with the murder and he remains in police custody.

“Meanwhile the first suspect remains in police custody.

She added: “We would reiterate that we believe those involved are known to each other and there is no wider risk to the public.

“However, we will continue with a high visible policing presence on Victoria Road to reassure the public if they have any concerns about the activity.

“If anyone saw anything unusual in the area in the early hours of Tuesday morning, or may have information that assists police, then please get in touch.”
