Seven men charged with violent disorder following mass brawl in Arran Drive, Jarrow

Police have charged seven men with violent disorder following a fight in Arran Drive, Jarrow on Saturday, June 6.

Northumbria Police have revealed that seven men have been charged with violent disorder after a fierce fight broke out in broad daylight on Saturday, June 6.

At around 2pm, officers received a report that a number of men were causing a disturbance on Arran Drive in Jarrow.

It is also alleged that a number of men had brandished weapons during the incident.

Three of the men are due before South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court today (Monday, June 8), with the remaining four appearing tomorrow.

Detective Inspector Sean Mcguigan, of Northumbria Police, said: “This was an absolutely appalling incident that would have terrified those living on the street and anybody who witnessed it in the middle of the day.

“A group of men, who we believe to be known to each other, were involved in a violent disagreement in the middle of the street and were seen using weapons against each other.

“This type of behaviour is totally unacceptable and can have a corrosive impact on our communities.

“Anybody involved should be ashamed of their actions and our enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the disturbance.”
