South Shields man breached restraining order and hid under bed at ex-partner's home

Craig Charlton was sentenced to 36 weeks in prison on Friday, February 28 at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court after admitting two breaches at a previous hearing.
John Garside, prosecuting, said witnesses saw Charlton shouting at his former partner in a Gateshead street on Friday, February 7, leaving her “terrified”.

Hide AdThe woman then contacted the police herself on Thursday, February 20 after coming home and finding Charlton hiding under a bed.
David Forrester, mitigating, said Charlton, of Green Lane, has had issues with alcohol in the past and that he knew he had “done wrong”.
The restraining order was first imposted in November 2019, with Forrester given a community sentence in January this year for separate breaches of it.
He was remanded in custody on Saturday, February 22 after the latest breaches.
Charlton must also pay a £122 victim surcharge.
