Victim suffered 'multiple' injuries to head and face after brutal attack at South Shields barbershop

Two men have been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon after an attack in South Shields put a man in hospital.

Northumbria Police launched an investigation following the serious assault, which took place at T&S Barbers on Whiteleas Way.

It was reported that a customer had been attacked, with a 36-year-old man suffering multiple injuries to his head and face.

Two men, aged 38 and 31, have now been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing an offensive weapon.

They appeared before magistrates in South Tyneside on Tuesday, March 3 and will make a further appearance at Newcastle Crown Court later this month.

Detective Constable Stu Havery, of Northumbria Police, has called on witnesses who saw the assault, which happened on Monday, February 24 at around 5pm, to come forward.

He said: “This was a particularly nasty assault which saw the victim brutally attacked as he was getting his hair cut.

“He suffered a number of injuries and was taken to hospital as a result. We have been carrying out a number of enquiries into the incident and have now charged two men in connection with the assault.

“They will appear before the courts in the coming weeks.

“This incident happened on a busy street with a number of bystanders nearby, so we believe there are members of the community out there who have information that could help with our ongoing inquiries.”
