Woman abused police after taxi driver called cops when trouble flared

A woman has been fined by a court for causing a rumpus around a taxi ride while ‘heavily intoxicated’.

Terri Cullen, 30, of Parry Drive, Whitburn, swore and was abusive when police attended Station Road, East Boldon, at the behest of the driver, magistrates heard.

Prosecutor Laura Lax told South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court police were sent to the scene at 4.37pm on Saturday, November 23.

She said: “A call came in from a taxi driver about a fare that he had picked up. He had picked up a male and female.

“Two police officers attended and found two people sat in the vehicle. They both appeared to be heavily intoxicated, they engaged with them.”

Ms Lax added of Cullen, who pleaded guilty to a charge of being drunk and disorderly: “She continued to swear and became abusive and claimed that she had done nothing wrong.”

Cullen, who defended herself, told magistrates: “I’ve suffered from alcohol in the past and it’s been a problem. I’m sorry.”

She was fined £146 and must pay £85 court costs and a £32 victim surcharge.
