A walking tour is set to dive into the history of the Jarrow Crusade.

Members of the public are invited to find out more about the iconic Jarrow Crusade ahead of its 90th anniversary.

The Jarrow Crusade, also known as the Jarrow March, was an organised protest against the unemployment and poverty that was being suffered in the town during the 1930s.

On October 5, 1936, around 200 men started to march from Jarrow to London to deliver a petition to the British government to re-establish industry in the town following the closure of Palmer’s Shipyard, in 1934.

The walking tour will meet at the Charles Palmer statue, opposite Jarrow Town Hall, at 2.30pm on Sunday, October 4 - it will finish at the Jarrow pedestrian tunnel entrance.

Adult tickets for the event cost £7, with concession (aged over 60) tickets available for £5.

Those with a Newcastle City Guides Season Ticket can attend for free providing you show your ticket on the day.
