Heavy delays on Metro after passenger has to be helped off tracks

There are lengthy delays on the Metro this evening after a passenger had to be helped off the tracks.

Trains were held between the airport and South Shields and Sunderland during the the incident at Haymarket but have now resumed.

They were not initially stopping at Haymarket, but the styation has now reopened.

Trains are running with a gap in service of up to 40 minutes after ambulance crews attended the scene.
