Castle has completed the refurbishment of level 3 of the Axis Building, at Maingate, on the Team Valley trading estate in Gateshead.

The Hebburn-based business had already completed the full refurbishment and fit out of levels 2, 4 and 5, plus the ground floor reception areas.

The works programme focused on creating a sustainable, modern office space which includes rooftop plant replacement, solar panel installation and extensive interior fit outs.

It is one of several projects Castle has been appointed to complete on behalf of UK Land Estates, a property investor and developer.

The others include a 50,000sq ft industrial unit at Didcot Way, Boldon Business Park, in West Boldon, where Castle recently completed a full refurbishment.

Castle is also the principal contractor to South Tyneside College’s new ongoing campus development in South Shields town centre.

The facility is set to be open by September next year in a move that will see the college’s current site at Westoe turned over to housing.

Craig Muldoon, Castle’s divisional director, Build, said it was a privilege to have been appointed to the Axis Building project.

He added: “Our thanks to UK Land Estates, with whom we have an established relationship, based on our proven track record for quality and delivery.”

Adrian Bartle, construction director at UK Land Estates, added: “This is a project which places sustainability at the forefront of activity, reducing carbon footprint and delivering a top-quality service for its occupiers.

“As always, it is vital we appoint trusted partners to deliver projects that demand high levels of technical expertise and strong quality controls.

“Castle provides that reassurance and as its team completes level 3, we look forward to work commencing on the full refurbishment and fit out of level 1.”

The scope of works for Castle included the installation of new mechanical and electrical upgrades, such as new energy-efficient heat pump systems.

Internal refurbishment and finishes included new plastered partitions, internal glazed screens and doors, wall and floor finishes, and both general and specialist joinery within the kitchens and reception areas.
