Hebburn man, 41, admits £500 damage to neighbour's window in 'minor' dispute

A Hebburn man admitted to smashing his neighbour’s window and causing £500 of damage in court this week.

A man from Hebburn ‘shot’ an item through a window and smashed it in a ‘minor’ neighbourly dispute.

Scott Harrison, of Whickham Road, Hebburn appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court on Friday, September 11.

The 41-year-old stood charged of one count of criminal damage to the value of £500.

Harrison, who wore a shirt and joggers, told the magistrates’ bench: “I just want to apologise first for my actions I did that day.”

The court heard on August 8, 2026, he damaged a window of another property in Hebburn.

Mr James Gallagher, prosecuting, said: “The victim would say the defendant approached his address and shot an item through the window.”

Police were called to the incident, the court heard, and Harrison admitted the offence right away.

He told officers: “It was me who put her windows through.”

The court heard Harrison has 40 convictions for 66 offences and was last in court in February 2025.

Defending, Mr David Forrester, told the court he admitted the offence “earlier than the first opportunity” and Harrison had ”some mental health issues in the past.”

He called the matter a “minor neighbour dispute.”

The magistrates’ bench told Harrison: “You have a really bad record.”

Harrison said: “It’s about time I grew up, you know what I mean?”

He was handed a compensation order to the value of £500 for the damage to the window.

Harrison was told: “The reason we’re being lenient to you today is because you turned up today, you pleaded guilty today, you have not wasted the court’s time today.”

The court heard the £500 compensation order will be taken from his Universal Credit payments.
